Rebel Wilson Opens Up About 'Bad News' & Fertility Struggles On Instagram

When you’re struggling with something deeply personal or get some less-than-great news, it can sometimes feel like you’re torn between not knowing who you can comfortably let in on what you’re going through and wanting to just kick down the wall and make it clear you need some support. In a post from Rebel Wilson on Instagram early Monday, she took the time to let her fans and followers in on her struggles with fertility — and, even though the Internet is frequently a terrible place, found a sweet and reassuring response from other people who got it.

In her post, Wilson shared that she’d gotten “some bad news” related to her fertility struggles and just wanted other folks dealing with infertility to know they aren’t alone.

“Got some bad news today and didn’t have anyone to share it with…but I guess I gotta tell someone,” she wrote. “To all the women out there struggling with fertility, I feel ya. The universe works in mysterious ways and sometimes it all doesn’t make sense…but I hope there’s light about to shine through all the dark clouds.”

Wilson had previously said that her “Year of Health” challenge in 2020 was due to her goals around fertility and pregnancy down the line: “I was also freezing my eggs because — as all good, career women out there should note — that if that’s something that interests you, it’s a pretty good time to do it. I was thinking about fertility and having good quality eggs in the bank, so I was like, ‘Okay, I’m going to do this. I’m going to get healthy,’” she said at the time.

Fertility is complicated and as we aren’t Wilson’s doctors and don’t know her particular story, we do know that it’s so important for people who are struggling with infertility (or otherwise coping with their family plans changing or evolving) need to find each other and connect in order to bust the longstanding stigmas that make an already challenging part of life an isolating and heartbreaking experience.

Within hours of her original post, she said she’d seen so many responses from other folks going through the same thing or about their own similar experiences. Updating her caption, she thanked everyone for helping her feel less alone.

“Just wanted to say I woke up this morning and read through everyone’s kind messages and stories about their journeys and I can’t tell you how much that meant to me and has made me feel a lot better today,” Wilson said. “Social media for the win here in terms of creating connection when I was in a very lonely place. So thank you everyone 💕”

Cheers to opening up and finding community — especially for folks struggling with fertility — it helps to know that you’re not alone.
