We all dream of a chiselled jawline and razor-sharp cheekbones to rival Angelina Jolie’s, but not everyone is born this way. If you’ve had a few too many cakes during lockdown, you might notice you’ve developed double chin or lost definition in your face. Not to worry, has found out exactly how to lose weight in your face.

Lose weight

You can’t direct weight loss to only one part of the body, so the best way to a thinner face is to lose weight all over.

If you’ve ever seen a before and after photo of someone who has lost a good few stones in weight, you’ll know that weight loss slims your face significantly.

Get 10,000 steps in a day or do 30 minutes of exercise every day to aid weight loss, and focus on your diet.

If you are overweight, use the NHS weight loss plan to find out how many calories you need to eat a day to safely lose weight.

If you are a healthy weight and still want to lose fat on your face, make sure you stay within the healthy BMI range.

Facial workouts

If you were trying to lose weight on your legs and bum, you’d do squats, lunges, leg raises, glute bridges, and other moves that get your legs and bum working.

The same goes for your face. There are exercises you can do to strengthen the muscles in your face.

To lift your cheekbones, place your fingers over each cheekbone and lift the skin until it is taut.

At the same time, open your mouth to form an oval shape and hold this for five minutes.

Repeat this exercise 10 to 15 times once a day.

To shed chubby cheeks, tilt your head back and push your chin forward while sucking your cheeks in for five seconds.

Do this 10 to 15 times once a day.

To tone your jaw and ward of double chins, tilt your head back and look at the ceiling.

Move your lower lip over your upper lip and hold for 10 seconds, then do it 9-14 more times.

Toning device

Yes, there really is a machine that will tone your face for you.

You can get microcurrent toning devices that firm your skin, using sonic pulsations to lift, tone, and contour the areas you feel rubbish about.

You must be willing to commit to the cause though, because they are very pricey.

For example, Foreo’s Bear device is £279, and the NuFACE Mini Toning Device is £167.

Gua sha massage

The lymphatic system is a part of your immune system that removes bodily waste, prevents infection, and drains fluid called lymph to bring it back to your bloodstream.

If you have puffy skin or swelling on the face, your lymph system is obstructed.

Gua Sha is an ancient device normally made from Jade that is used with a traditional Chinese massage technique to aid lymphatic drainage.

Using strokes towards your heart, run the stone across your puffy areas such as your jaw line, eyebrow bone, and cheekbones to drain them.

Do this every morning or whenever your face looks puffy to make it appear slimmer.

Get more sleep

Sleep is key to losing weight in general, because you burn fat in your sleep.

This means that the more sleep deprived you are the more weight your body will hold on to, including the fat around your face.

We all know that when we are tired, we also tend to eat a lot more and reach for junk food instead of healthy food.

Let’s not forget that a lack of sleep gives you puffy skin on your face, adding to the chubby look you think you already have.

Drink water

Water plays a huge role in losing fat on your face.

Water keeps you feeling full and boosts weight loss because it helps you to eat more and burn more calories.

Dehydration can cause blood vessels to get bigger which leads to water retention, particularly in the face.

A puffy face happens particularly in the morning, but won’t settle down unless you drink lots of water.
