Coronavirus warning: ‘The single most effective way’ to avoid COVID-19 – Dr Chris explains
Coronavirus is a deadly infection that’s killed almost 40,000 people in the UK, and hundreds of people are still dying every single day. ITV This Morning’s Dr Chris Steele has explained how to lower your risk of infection, and why you should avoid wearing gloves.
Wearing gloves won’t bring help to protect you against the deadly coronavirus, warned Dr Chris.
He explained that the virus can’t get through your skin, if your hands become contaminated with COVID-19, so there’s no particular benefit to wearing them.
Moreover, simply taking off your gloves when you get home raises the risk of spreading the virus to other surfaces in the house.
Simply sanitising your hands, or washing them for 20 seconds, is the best way to prevent becoming infected with coronavirus, he added.
“I can’t understand why people are wearing gloves,” said Dr Chris.
“The WHO advice is that ‘the wearing of gloves is not advised. Simply washing your hands or sanitising properly your hands is the single most effective way to ensure your hands are free of any contamination’.
“I think there might be just one slight benefit of wearing gloves. You may become more aware of not touching your face.
“To be honest with you, the gloves are contaminated. Taking the gloves off can be a dodgy business. The virus can’t get through the skin. I don’t wear gloves. When you get home, just wash your hands.”
You should also make sure to wash your hands for a full 20 seconds, added Dr Chris.
If you do go out and about, take a bottle of hand sanitiser with you, and “Sanitise. Sanitise. Sanitise”.
“I class everybody as potentially infected and I class every surface as potentially contaminated,” he said.
“That’s being very cautious, but I think we have to be very cautious. This virus is highly contagious. It’s killed 40,000 people in this country. It’s horrendous.”

You could be at risk of coronavirus infection if you develop any of the key warning signs.
The three most common symptoms to look out for include a high fever, a new, continuous cough, and a loss of smell or taste.
Some patients have also reported developing diarrhoea, headaches, sore throats, and aches and pains.
You should self-isolate for seven days if you develop any of the three key symptoms. If you live with other people, you and your household should self-isolate for 14 days.

Some patients have also reported diarrhoea, headaches, and even a widespread rash.
If you’re worried that you may have the infection, you should quarantine yourself for at least 14 days.
More than 261,000 people have tested positive for coronavirus in the UK.
Of those patients, almost 40,000 people have sadly died from COVID-19.
